Clean Water Crisis in the Indonesian Archipelago become the Government Focus

Clean Water Crisis in the Indonesian Archipelago become the Government Focus

by FC IMD

The biggest archipelago in the world is run out of water, quite a paradox for Indonesia. Even-though Indonesia is covered by 3.544.744 km² sea surface, it is not equal to the clean water provider. Thus, in 2015 two Indonesian students created an innovation to transform saltwater to a drinking water. In 2016 the Indonesian government has applied this concept in some big cities in Indonesia started by the capital Jakarta and the city of Riau. In the last decade, Indonesia has suffered a water crisis due to many reason including the growth of the population (from 232 million in 2007 to 258 million in 2017), the uncontrolled use of water resistant, climate change as well as inefficiency in water management such as rainwater harvest (only 25% of the rain water is used whereas Indonesia has half-year rainy season). The recent study shows that 70% of lower class in developing countries possessed mobile phone while the percentage of tap water is far less, Indonesia is one of the perfect example. Therefore Indonesian government is investing greatly in clean water projects.

Indonesian Government is Maximizing Waste to Energy

Indonesian Government is Maximizing Waste to Energy

by FC IMD

One of the Indonesian government priority is energy specifically, the renewable energy in which the President Joko widodo is committed to allocate 1 trillion IDR in 2015. As a tropical country with the average of 2975 hours of sunlight per year (of a possible 4383), naturally Indonesia has started with solar energy. But Indonesia is also the notorious second largest waste contributor in the world with 187,2 million ton per year after China with 262,9 ton per year. Therefore, the Indonesian government is trying to change a bane to a boon by transforming a waste to a renewable energy. This challenge was started by the 7 pilot projects in big cities of Indonesia and intended to be generalized to all around the country. go to website.

Energy : Indonesian government priority

Energy : Indonesian government priority

Energy is the key priority of the President of Indonesia in order to support the economic growth. The Indonesian government is building the power infrastructure, therefore they need substantial investment as well as adequate technology to improve the Generation capacity, currently at around 55.5 GW. This capacity is terribly insufficient for the electricity demand from Indonesia’s growing middle class population and its manufacturing sector. This issue is a key priority of the Joko Widodo’s government. In late 2014, President Jokowi stated an ambitious plans for infrastructure development generally and power generation in particular, by announcing the goal of adding 35 GW of capacity over the next five years. go to website.
